If you have been convicted of a crime and all appeals have been exhausted, there are mechanisms in place to attack that prior conviction at the federal and state level. It may result in the opportunity for a new trial if your rights have been violated or the constitution was not followed.

At the Davis Law Office, we also handle direct appeals of judgments of convictions, including those previously litigated by another lawyer. When that happens, the client is usually not happy with what their attorney did and did not do in managing their case.

The first step in handling an appeal is to see what was preserved at the initial trial through objections. As a criminal defense lawyer who has handled appeals for my own clients, I recognize the value of preserving any errors in the courtroom that violated my clients' rights or the Constitution. If the previous lawyer showed any level of incompetence in not preserving any errors that may have occurred, I will review that information as well in arguing for an appeal.
